To Be

El verb 'To be' té una importància especial en anglès. Es correspon als verbs "ésser" i "estar".

I am English / Sóc anglès
I am in England / Estic a Anglaterra

Té alguns usos especials:

- Serveix per a expressar l'edat:

Mary is 20 years old / Maria té 20 anys

I am 21 / Jo tinc 21 anys
How old are you? / Quants anys tens?

- Per a expressar les sensacions (tenir).

Are you hungry? / Tens fam?
He is thirsty / Té sed

- També per a parlar sobre el temps atmosfèric (fer)

It's windy / Fa vent
It's very cold / Fa molt fred
